GEOG 364 - Graduate Seminar in Economic Geography PART I

Type of Course: Seminar
In this seminar we review key theoretical developments in Economic Geography since the 19th Century. Some years this course is offered as the first installment of a two-sequence course with GEOG 365. Other years, this course will run as a stand along course. In both cases, readings will include historical debates and classical writings on the history of economic thought, emergence of economic geography as a discipline, as well as contemporary theoretical debates and emerging themes on the geographic manifestations of economic change and development around the world. We will examine major conceptual frameworks and key assumptions underlining the logics of industrial location, evolutions of agglomeration/cluster formations, dynamics of regional growth/decline, as well as relevant theories of the firm, innovation, institutions, trade, and the state in economic geography.
