GEOG 319 - Concepts and Applications in Spatial Analysis

Type of Course: Graduate Seminar
Covers a wide array of theories, models, methods that seek describe, explain and predict the spatial distribution, organization and flow of human activities and natural phenomena on the surface of the earth.  Concepts and analytical tools originated in cartography, statistics, regional science and other disciplines that constitute the foundation of geographic information science (GIS) will be revised in order to explore their usefulness to test theories stemming from the natural and social sciences. The course emphasizes linking theory, methods and applications. Students will be required to read and critically evaluate classic and current literature and be prepared to discuss it in class. Some applications will be illustrated through case studies with hands-on exercises.

 

 

Prerequisites: Prerequisite: GEOG 190/GEOG390/IDCE310 Introduction to GIS.  Suggested: An introductory statistics course and Advanced Vector GIS.
