		Overview
Graduate Program The program leading to the Master of Arts in English encourages innovative, individually designed approaches of study and more traditional approaches to literature. The controlled size of the program fosters an atmosphere of intensive intellectual exchange among faculty and students. Teaching assistantships with tuition remission plus stipend and full- and part-time tuition-remission scholarships are available on a competitive basis.  Graduate Requirements
For the Master of Arts, the student must satisfactorily complete at least eight upper-level courses or seminars, which include ENG 340 - Introduction to Graduate Study in English , and ENG 397 - Master’s Thesis . Graduate students will receive 300-level designations for graduate-level course work in those 200-level courses deemed suitable for graduate credit and for which they are expected to complete extra graduate requirements. Students are also required to register for and participate in ENG 390 - Departmental Colloquium  (no course credit), where they will present working drafts on some aspect of their thesis topics. In addition to completion of the master’s thesis (ENG 397 ), the student must pass a final oral examination. Program Faculty
