Clark University offers undergraduate and graduate pathway programs for international students. The pathway program is designed to accommodate students who are academically admissible in a degree program but for their English language skills. Unlike a traditional English as a Second Language (ESL) program, pathways are designed to provide students with a conditional admission to a degree program while they attend our campus based pathway program. The program consists of a holistic approach to language acquisition while students are actively enrolled in academic content courses in their degree of study. Once a student successfully meets all of their academic and linguistic requirements, they are fully matriculated into the degree program. Students can only participate in pathway a maximum of two semesters and will be expected to meet full matriculation standards within that timeframe.
Admission to the pathway program (graduate and undergraduate) is typically for a non-native English speaker with a TOFEL score of 70 or higher. Many of Clark’s degree programs require a TOFEL score of 85 or better for full admission. Students achieving a GPA of 3.0 or better in their content courses and meeting or exceeding Clark’s English language standards can move to full matriculation in their degree program. This process typically takes one or two semesters. Students not achieving these benchmark standards after two semesters will not qualify for full matriculation into their degree program.
Clark University’s Pathway programs are administered by the American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI).
