Overview

Earn your MFA by adding a fifth year to your Interactive Media studies. Our program prepares students for careers in the competitive and ever-changing fields of game development and interactive media, or a career path in higher education, teaching, and research. Please Note: The MFA is not part of the ADP program, students admitted into this fifth year of study do not qualify for Tuition Remission.

The Master of Fine Arts in interactive media curriculum requires 15 one-unit courses. MFA course work includes self-directed project development, research, and thesis writing. In the second year of the MFA, students will act as Creative Director and Team Lead for an undergraduate Game Studio team. The graduate student, along with this team, will work to complete an original work of Interactive Media to be exhibited at the end of the year along with the MFA student’s thesis defense.

Departmental Eligibility Requirements

The accelerated Bachelor of Arts/Master of Fine Arts in Interactive Media is open to Clark University students in the the B.A. program majoring in Interactive Media Design who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. Students apply in their junior year to be eligible to register for graduate courses in their senior year. The application process includes a portfolio and transcript review. Please note - all PLS requirements must be fulfilled prior to starting the MFA.

Students are required to meet with the Program Advisor (Professor Amanda Theinert) as a formal part of the admissions process. This meeting will assist prospective students in assessing the appropriateness of the degree to their professional aspirations.

Students eligible for the 4+1 BA/MFA program take 7 Units of graduate courses in their undergraduate senior year, these count both towards finishing their BA and starting their MFA.

Students will take IMED Graduate Studio I and II in place of two Game Studio requirements. Students may use their IMED Grad Electives and IMED Seminar as their Track GAME Elective requirements for completing their BA.
