Art History Overview
The art history program focuses on the visual arts and the social, cultural and historical context in which art is created. Majors may take courses in Ancient and Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque, and Modern and Contemporary art history or other areas. For those considering teaching, museum and gallery work, arts conservation or arts management, the major is designed to meet the student’s needs and may include an internship at an appropriate institution.

Minor Requirements
All courses and seminars in this program are open to nonmajors. Students whose major lies in another discipline may minor in art history. 6 courses are required for the art history minor. Students must earn a grade of C+ or better in all courses contributing to the Art History Minor.
- ARTH 010 - From the Stone Age to Our Age: Monuments and Masterpieces of Western Art
- 5 Area courses. Courses are offered in the following areas: Ancient and Medieval; Renaissance/ Baroque; Modern; Non-Western. Students should take no more than 3 courses in one area, and a total of 2 courses must be at the 200 level.
