Business Economics Overview

The major in Business Economics combines the study of economic theories and analytical tools with the development of functional business skills. Students in Business Economics will gain a deep understanding of how markets operate at the micro and macro levels and develop skillsets to deliver solutions in rapidly changing business environments.

Major Requirements

A total of sixteen units is required for this program.  The curriculum includes two prerequisites, six Business core courses, five Economics core courses, two electives, and one capstone. Students must take all courses for the major for a letter grade. A minimum of 2.0 cumulative grade-point average in major courses is required for graduation.

Students interested in combining the Business Economics major with another program of study in the School of Business can minor in that subject (Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, and Marketing). A dual major between two majors in the School of Business is not an option.

Program Co/Prerequisite

ECON010 and a Calculus course are program pre/corequisites. Students do not need to complete these courses before taking other major courses, but some major courses do require these courses to be completed first.

Economics Core Requirements

Electives

Two units of 200 level ECON or School of Business (ACCT, BLAW, FIN, MGMT, MKT or QBUS) courses are required.

One of the two units must be from ECON.

The internship course, MGMT 298 , can count for the business elective. However, ECON 298 , cannot count for the ECON elective.

If students complete the MGMT298 internship course, a Pass/Fail grade is permissible to count towards the major requirements in this course only.

Capstone

The School of Business capstone course MGMT 260  is the required capstone for Business Economics majors.
