Master of Science in Project Management Overview
The Master of Science in Project Management program develops ethical, innovative, and effective leaders and problem solvers poised for success in project management across a spectrum of industries. Emphasizing practical skills, our curriculum engages students in different project management methodologies, tools, and techniques to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and close projects successfully. Through case studies, simulations, and field experiences, students develop critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork abilities crucial for navigating complex projects in a dynamic business landscape. Aligned with the most current version of the global Project Management Book of Knowledge (PBMOK) standards, our program ensures students grasp industry best practices, enhancing communication and collaboration for successful project outcomes. Internship
Completing an internship is a requirement in this graduate program. Students are responsible for securing their own internship. While students will gain valuable experience, they will not earn academic credit for their internship. Internship requirements: - Must include a minimum of 120 hours
- Must be directly related to the student’s program of study
- Must be approved by the Director of Career and Professional Development
Exceptions: - Students who have seven (7) or more years of professional work experience directly related to their program of study may seek to waive the internship requirement.
- Students who currently work full-time in a field/industry directly related to their program of study.
Students seeking to waive the internship requirement must receive permission from the Director of Career and Professional Development by the end of their second semester in the master’s program. The Master of Science in Project Management requires 10 courses: eight (8) core required courses and two (2) elective courses. Required Courses: Program Learning Outcomes
- Prepare for Project Management certifications with advanced knowledge and skills of project management processes; agile practices; planning and governance of projects and programs.
- Execute project management tasks in accordance with each of the PMBOK domains of People, Process and Business using project methodologies such as Predictive, Agile and Hybrid.
- Demonstrate professional project management skills as outlined in the Global Accreditation Standards: Technical Expertise, Professional Behavior and Strategic Awareness.
- Utilize basic project management tools and software techniques applicable to the three project domains of People, Process, and Business.
- Execute project deliverables while exhibiting contextual awareness and knowledge of strategic, societal, and operational frameworks.
- Evaluate ethical considerations and develop cultural awareness in communication, teamwork and stakeholder management in all project endeavors regardless of methodology employed (Predictive, Agile or Hybrid).
