CHEM 134 - Biological Organic Chemistry

Type of Course: Lecture, Laboratory
CHEM 134 is the second semester of the two-semester organic-chemistry sequence and builds upon the concepts of structure, bonding, geometry, stereochemistry and fundamental reaction mechanisms developed in CHEM 131 . Special emphasis is placed on the biological applications of organic chemistry. Topics include the chemistry of aromatic compounds, carbonyl compounds, amines, lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides and nucleic acids. Students may receive credit for either CHEM 132  or CHEM 134.

Prerequisites: CHEM 131 .
