PHYS 210 - Condensed Matter Physics

Investigates experimental properties and the quantum theory of solids. Topics include crystal and reciprocal lattice structures, the free-electron theory of metals, electronic band structure and the Fermi surface, lattice vibrations and the elementary excitations of solids, magnetism, superconductivity. Prepares students for graduate studies. Lectures are the same as PHYS 310, but the assignments, projects, examinations, and evaluations are differentiated. 

Prerequisites: PHYS PHYS 150  and PHYS 171
