BIOL 221 - Developmental Biology

This course examines development, a process by which a fertilized egg gives rise to a multicellular organism with organs, tissues and cell types that are structurally and functionally distinct and are arranged in a characteristic three-dimensional body plan. We will focus on how development translates genotypes (maternal and inherited) into the phenotypes of the adult organisms with an emphasis on animals but with some discussion of plants. In the lab portion of the course, you will design your own experiments in developmental biology and collect data for a few different animals.

Prerequisites: BIOL 111  or BIOL 118 , or BIOL 137
