ECON 128 - Intro to Economic Development


This course serves as an introduction to development economics. We will study the economic circumstances and problems of the poor in low income countries.  The course reviews alternative theories of economic growth and explores the role of conflict, institutions, and gender equality, among others.  The course examines a number of issues central to the lives of people in the developing world, including health, education, and labor market outcomes.  The course considers the contributions economic analysis can make to understanding poverty at the household and national level.

Offered every year. Students may not take both ECON 128 and ECON 228 .

Prerequisites: ECON 010 .
