HIST 080 - Introduction to Modern East Asia


This course surveys East Asian history, politics, economy, and civilization (1600 to the present) from a global perspective. By looking closely at three major players in the region, China, Japan, and Korea, the class examines the arduous routes that East Asian countries underwent to achieve their current economic strength and political status. This class also explores East Asian countries’ long and contested relations with Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Eurasia, and the West.
