SOC 260 - Immigrants and Immigration in the 21st Century

Immigration is the dominant discourse of 21st century worldwide. This course examines immigrants and the cultures of movement they create when they cross borders and settle in new terrains. How do borders, journeys, and diasporas shape the identities of individuals, groups, and cultural objects? We decode these dynamics and interrogate why the debates on immigration are so volatile despite the enormous creativity and contributions of immigrant in every society they settle in.
