MSDA 3940 - Internship This internship course will enable students to establish a connection between classroom theory and practical application in the field. The course will cover and help students develop professional skillsets needed to succeed in the workplace such as self-management (self-awareness, task and time management), teaming and organizational dynamics (cross functional collaboration, conflict resolution, and communication up and across organizations). Additionally, the course will focus on other professional/career development topics and post internship success.
Student Registration Process
Students secure placement in internships that complement their academic pursuits. Internships may be with or without pay. Tasks and responsibilities must align with the student’s degree program with a total of 280 completed hours of work for the semester. Interns report to a designated supervisor with the employing organization. Both the intern and supervisor will interface with the internship class faculty member or director of experiential learning to ensure progress during the semester and learning outcomes are being met. Internships can be completed in an on-site, hybrid, or remote environment. Regular seminars with the academic supervisor provide an arena for feedback on issues common to all the interns. Registering for the internship course requires permission from the director of experiential learning. To receive an override, please email your offer letter using the guidelines in the internship handbook to the director of experiential learning. The internship is strongly encouraged for all students with fewer than three years full-time professional work experience.
