MGMT 4053 - Responsible Management in a Global Economy This course will expose graduate management students to the challenges of management decision-making in a complex global context. It will highlight ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability as described in the School of Management’s mission. Developmental competency areas include critical thinking, creative problem-solving, multiple perspectives, global mindset, change management, practice-oriented research, and managerial communications.
Each semester the course will focus on a global issue identified by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and will study the business and managerial approaches to this issue. Students will work in teams to complete the SDG Project, applying foundational knowledge, appropriate framework(s) and the skills gained throughout the course. The teaching approach also will include simulations, scenarios, case studies, writing assignments, and readings. Students will be exposed to techniques, knowledge, and mindsets used in management consulting, governments, think tanks, social enterprises, and businesses.
