GEOG 344 - Applied Climatology: Topics & Methods

This course examines how climatic data and techniques are applied to address a wide range of environmental problems. To better understand global and regional climate change impacts, this course introduces a number of datasets and methodologies that are commonly used by climatologists, including time series analysis, homogeneity analysis, and model evaluation. Topics of inquiry may include the role of climate in water resources, solar energy, urban planning, environmental conservation, air quality, agriculture, public health, and knowledge co-production. Through weekly labs and a team project, students engage with real-world, complex problems, gain hands-on experience working with climate data, and consider how these data inform decision-making and policy around sustainable development, climate adaptation, resilience, and mitigation.
