BIOL 288 - Ecological Restoration Long-accumulated human damage to ecosystems has created a critical need for professionals that can restore the degraded ecosystems to promote biodiversity and climate resiliency. This course is designed to provide the conceptual frameworks necessary for understanding the processes of assisting the recovery and management of ecological systems, with a focus on ecosystems of Massachusetts and New England.
A primary focus of this class is to provide you with practical hands-on experience with restoration projects. Therefore, we will spend much of our class time devoted to building the skills needed for developing restoration plans, conducting scientific research, and long-term monitoring. These projects and course site visits will require you to apply ecological knowledge and restoration practices, which will prepare you to participate in design and implementation of future restoration projects.
