ENG 317 - Early Asian/American and Pacific Islander Literature

This course primarily explores English-language literature by people of East Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander descent from the early nineteenth century to the beginning of World War II. Through a selection of novels, memoirs, plays, poems, and other writing, we will consider social issues such as imperialism, decolonization movements, migration, indigeneity, race and racism, gender, sexuality, class, and the environment.
