TA 131 - Contemporary Dance II
Contemporary Dance II is a continuation of Contemporary Dance I and further explores the historical roots, evolving practices, and creative possibilities of contemporary dance. The course builds on core movement principles introduced in the first level, including efficiency, coordination, flow, musicality, and expressive use of the body, while gradually increasing physical and artistic complexity.
Classes meet twice per week and progress from floor work to standing and traveling phrases, drawing from contemporary and modern dance practices alongside influences from ballet, yoga, and Pilates. Students continue to develop strength, endurance, coordination, and movement clarity while engaging in phrase development, improvisation, and introductory repertory, deepening both technical skill and individual artistry through embodied practice.
Prerequisite/Recommended: Contemporary Dance I or prior movement experience; students with equivalent experience are welcome with instructor permission.
May be repeatable for credit.
Prerequisites: TA 130 or instructor permission.
Anticipated Terms Offered: Offered annually
