FIN 5310 - Case Studies in Derivatives

The goal of this course is a thorough exploration of the risk-management process. This decision involves identifying and quantifying the risk to be transferred, selecting the means of transferring the risk and implementing the risk-management decision. Risk management is only partly a quantitative field. Strategy, negotiation, marketing and basic financial management are important as well. This course will focus on several important areas: (1) understanding the players in the market for financial risk; the buyers and sellers of risk, and the various intermediaries and (2) making a risk-management decision with only limited information about the true risks a firm faces. Open to MSF students only.
