PSCI 212 - Politics, Culture and Society in Latin America

Provides an overview of the key economic and political issues confronting Latin America today: economic development and social inequality, international debt, the breakdown of democracies as well as transitions from authoritarian rule, revolutions, and the role of working-class, women’s, peasant and ethnic movement. Draws on the analytical perspectives of the political economy and cultural politics to develop a nuanced and self-reflexive understanding of the complex realities of Latin-American politics.
