Overview


The field of public relations evolves at an unprecedented pace with growing opportunities for experienced professionals to lead and successfully help their organizations navigate through these changes. A certificate in Public Relations prepares graduate students with actionable skills and strategies needed to lead strategic communications in the global marketplace.   With a focus on storytelling, branding and managing internal and external stakeholders whether it is a new innovation or managing a crisis, this certificate equips students with the necessary skills and tools to make a positive impact in their workplace.  

Learning Outcomes


  • Develop and practice skills in crafting, planning, budgeting, and executing a comprehensive public relations campaign.
  • Explain the intersection of public relations, media relations, crisis communication and strategic communications.
  • Demonstrate the contribution of public relations practitioners in contemporary society.
  • Apply tools and techniques in managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Apply persuasion techniques to reach various audiences.
  • Demonstrate the ethical and legal aspect of the practice of public relations.
  • Develop a strategic public relations campaign to achieve specific goals and objectives.
  • Articulate the importance of and practice the art of storytelling. 

Certificate in Public Relations Requirements


The Public Relations certificate is a three-course stackable credential to the Master of Science in Communication degree.  

Complete three of the following courses:

MSPC 3114 - Crisis Communication  

MSPC 3217 - PR in the Digital Age  

MSPC 3218 - Brand Journalism  

MSPC 3220 - Effective Communication  

MSPC 3226 - The Art of Stakeholder Management
